Training in Australia
The school of music-thanatology through which Peter trained at St Patrick Hospital in the United States closed its operation there after 10 years. At present there are only two certification opportunities in this field, both in the United States. As there is a growing need for specially trained professionals to work in this area, Peter is actively pursuing the creation of a training program for music-thanatologists in Australia at Geelong Victoria.

Where will this be conducted?

Peter has been offered a home for this purpose at “Anam Cara House”, the Geelong Community Hospice situated in the historic presbytery in the grounds of St Mary's Basilica in the centre of the city.

The Institute of Music In Medicine is seeking funds to create this opportunity. Tax deductible donations to further the work of the IMIM are greatly appreciated. Please contact us for details.

What is involved?
The work is far more than just playing harp in a hospital. The written standards as set by the MTAI are challenging but achievable by someone who feels drawn to this work. Its curriculum will appeal to someone with a sense of vocation in this area, someone who is prepared for in depth personal growth and a deep encounter with music. It is intended that those who complete the training and go on to certify with the MTAI will be able to operate as professionals within in the medical community, both here and abroad.
