The uses of music as medicine is as old as civilization itself. It is hard to imagine any indigenous culture where music does not play an integral part in their rituals of healing. It is only after World War 2 that the uses of music as a therapeutic intervention began to become seriously developed in the West. Thousands of articles citing positive outcomes have been written offering both circumstantial and scientific evidence based research. Not to take seriously the value of music in this area is to turn ones back on a cross cultural inherently human expression and a contemporary field of evidence based scientific research.
